MTL was set up in 2005 after a successful pilot project demonstrated that school based Music Therapy provision was well attended with very positive outcomes. Regeneration funding provided the basis for an ongoing service with project development time provided as an integral aspect of service expansion.
Over the years MTL has received funding from Jessie’s Fund, The Walcot Foundation, the Capital Community foundation and funding directly from the schools themselves.
Our main work is to provide individual and group Music Therapy sessions in Lambeth Schools and Children’s Centres. Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) network meetings are one of the ways that information about the Music Therapy service is shared within the borough. Schools may then decide if they wish to fund provision for their particular school. MTL will then work closely with a school to support the setting up of a Music Therapy sessions.
